Things I Will Tell My Daughter: Uncensored Truths on Love, Money and Womanhood by Joan ThatiahI was pleasantly surprised by this book. I started reading it with a negative attitude for some reason (classic case of judging a book by its cover-because of the title, I expected a rip-off of Maya Angelous Letter to my daughter), but page by page, my attitude shifted.
Joan is very original and authentic. Its the raw truth of Joans words, the experiences you can relate to, the radicalism and revolutionary way in which she thinks that got to me.
Ever mother should read this book. Every woman should read this book. Simply amazing!

Things I Will Tell My Daughter: Uncensored Truths on Love, Money and Womanhood
A mine for lessons and amazing truths about life, that is how I would best define this book. It contains uncensored truths on different parts of life and the lessons she has learnt through her life and the life of the women around her. She is the mother of a boy and that makes it quite intriguing as to why the book is addressed to a daughter. In an interview with Caroline Mutoko, Joan explains that she wrote the book to herself. Things I will tell my daughter are lessons she would tell her younger self if she could. The book begins on a high note, with a captivating yet emotionally intriguing story of how she discovered that she was pregnant as a teenager.
I mean you now have this little delicate human being that is now your world. About the author. Joan Thaitah is a novelist, creative writer and a journalist. She has been published by the Daily Nation and several Kenyan magazines. The book starts off with a rather strange twist. The more you read the book, the more you realize that she wrote the book for herself. She is writing about the things she wished she knew while growing up.
