Human Learning by Jeanne Ellis Ormrod

This text covers a wide range of theories - conditioning, social-cognitive, information processing and social constructivism - and provides a thorough grounding in the psychology of motivation. Coverage demonstrates how different concepts relate to one another; provides dozens of proven examples; and emphasizes meaningful learning that makes the fundamentals of these theories as well as their application to education understandable to students with little or no prior coursework in psychology.

View in iTunes. Got completely hooked on Hard Core History. I've been listening to different history podcast for about a year now and though most are good Dan takes it to another level. His ability to paint a mind picture is unsurpassed. His narration is riveting. Bring the blood and gore associated with important historical events to life without being gratuitous. If you're looking for educational entertainment while driving in traffic this is it.

In one of the most violent outbursts in history a little-known tribe of Eurasian nomads breaks upon the great societies of the Old World like a human tsunami. It may have ushered in the modern era, but at what cost? The Mongol leader Genghis Khan displays an unmatched level of strategic genius while moving against both Northern China and the Eastern Islamic world. Both civilizations are left stunned and millions are slaughtered. Can anything halt the carnage?

DanAndersen on July 10, One thing you get from his depiction, which you don't get in the linked article, is an up-close sense of what the Mongol invasion felt like "from the inside" at the ground level, rather than the dispassionate view of "expanding trade" and being "egalitarian. I'd also recommend reading "Warriors of the Steppe" for an account of the rise and fall of the mongol empire. And yet it seems to me like the boundaries of Mongol conquest are the boundaries of what we call "the Western World" - and it outside Mongol rule where power has come to rest. Brutal modernization - what is described in the Khans' accomplishments - may indeed be flawed, even if we put aside as historians so easily do the lives and suffering of all those who lived through those times. Indeed it is geography not merit that saved Europe, which makes me wonder if the Mongol invasion was a curse, not a benefit, unlike the implication of this excerpt.

Available from iTunes and from its own site , this 5-part series is a free subset of a larger set of history podcasts. At first glance of the name and promotional images, Wrath of the Khans — Hardcore History, seems like it might be a podcast playing up the more sensationalist parts of history. Luckily this is not the case. I imagine the presentation aims to bring in as many listeners as possible to an otherwise serious history series. Written and presented by the professional broadcaster Dan Carlin , these 5 well produced episodes totaling 8.
